The Volts opens its doors to Canadian designers

Now, this spring, The Volts is increasingly showcasing Canadian designers alongside its roster of international labels. With this new emphasis on domestic design, we’ll be regularly scheduling events featuring sales from all-Canadian designers. The first one will take place from April 18th to May 2nd and will feature Fullum & Holt, Aqua Di Lara, Design + Conquer, Dimitri Chris, La Fée Verte, Gaya and Sid Neigum.

 

Fullum & Holt

Established in Old Montreal in 1897, Fullum & Holt brings to leather-working its 115 year history of expert craftsmanship and design. All manner of leather goods – from belts to briefcases and travel bags – are crafted by hand and with care in Canada, using high-quality materials and techniques honed over generations.
The Fullum & Holt sale:  April 18th to April 26th

 

Aqua Di Lara

Aqua Di Lara Creative Director Reyhan Sofraci has brought swimwear to high-fashion, thanks to influences as wide and diverse as her own cultural background. With designs crafted in its Montreal atelier from the highest quality European materials, Aqua Di Lara has developed an international reputation for its luxury and sophistication in designs at once exotic and modern.

Design + Conquer

Founded by Morgan Mallett in 2009, Vancouver-based Design + Conquer is self-described as “jewellery gone rogue”. Bordering on modern art, the label’s thoroughly modern, architectural pieces have received favour at Toronto Fashion Week andMorgan Mallett was recently shortlisted for the ‘Designers of the Year’ award from Western Living magazine, in the fashion and jewellery category.

Dimitri Chris

Dimitri-Chris Alexiou began designing a decade ago. Graduate of the International Academy of Design, he launched his eponymous label Dimitri Chris in 2009, and has since expanded his designs to include both women’s and men’s collections. Distinctly cosmopolitan, and with an eye to experimentation, the Montreal-based label has become a welcome relief from old standards. Sophisticated and wearable, but adventurous, Dimitri Chris has had strong showings at both Toronto Fashion Week and Montreal Fashion Week.

La Fée Verte

With designer Adam Sakara at the helm, La Fée Verte has emerged as one of Canada’s leading women’s labels to watch. Founded in 2009 and based out of Montreal, La Fée Verte is a vision in fashion-forward femininity, where sumptuous textures meet clean lines and unexpected design details. Originally a lingerie line, La FéeVerte has since expanded into a full-fledged apparel label, with ready-to-wear and resort collections.
La Fée Verte sale: from April 27th to May 5th

 

Gaya Handbags

Founded in 2003, and headed by Creative Director Wei Wei Chang, Vancouver-based Gaya is all about the “great bag.” Gaya’s craftsmanship rivals the quality of more traditional labels, though it applies that care to distinctly creative and modern designs. Chang’s broad backgrounds in fashion accessory design, fine arts and traditional leather-smithing have added to Gaya’s signature balance of traditional quality and modern style.

Sid Neigum

Dark, avant-garde and edgy, Canadian Sid Neigum‘s eponymous label draws on influences as diverse as New York street fashion, club subculture, and modern art for an aesthetic that challenges the conventions of fashion and revels in innovation. A bold, strong, and experimental Sid Neigum has participated in the Montreal Art and Design Festival, Toronto Fashion Week, Vancouver Fashion Week, and Western Canada Fashion Week.
The Sid Neigum sale: from May 2nd to May 10th
