#StayConnected: Ton Petit Look

For this week’s instalment of THE VOLTS#StayConnected collaboration with Montreal fashion bloggers, we have the pleasure of introducing twins Josiane and Carolane Stratis, the sharp, funny writers behind Ton Petit Look.

The whole idea for Ton Petit Look began at Montreal’s Osheaga Music Festival:

“We were there with the 33mag crew, making jokes about Carolane’s boyfriend’s blog, “ton petit lait.” That’s pretty much when the name “ton petit look” came about. We wanted to create a fashion blog that would offer the two things that represent us most: critical thinking and humor. From there, we started to develop the project with 33mag support and never stopped growing since.”

According to Josiane and Carolane, fashion can impact the way people think and feel, not just the way they look: “Clothes have an effect on mood, self-confidence and a bunch of other aspects of daily life, they define a person.”

However, they say, fashion is also about creativity and evolution. “It’s so easy to say, but we really enjoy the fact that opinions change [over] time. A couple of years ago, black and navy blue were not considered a good color match, and now this combination is a common practice. The rule is that there are no rules!”

Josiane explained that the two have had a tough time following some of the rules of our challenge, which asked them to create evening and everyday looks from designer styles in THE VOLTS‘ collections.

“At first, we tried to develop an evening look for Carolane and a day look for me,” says Josiane. “Obviously, it didn’t really work out. We ended up with two versatile looks that can work for day or night. We are like that, we can’t change our personalities in the blink of an eye!”

But they nonetheless followed the main stipulation: Represent the electric energy of THE VOLTS, while respecting their own unique style and personality. And for Josiane and Carolane, fashion and electricity are both essential in life.

“The two looks are [BCBG]. We’ve played with closet essentials and give them a personal touch.”

Carolane’s look is a reference to the 70s. However, we avoided the “Urban BOBO” look, which is not really our style.” She opted for a JC Rags white woven shirt, the Paul & Joe Ramses sweater and Mulcair‘s Guinness skirt.

“For Josiane, we opted for a comfy, professional dress by Paul & Joe, which we accentuated with an olive green cruise shirt by Nicholas K, and a Religion trench coat. We often play with fabric superpositions and masculine/feminine dress codes. By playing with fashion codes, you create unique looks.” Josiane also topped things off with an elegant Treesje bag.
